So Sunday was a day off between tours, so instead of chilling I went into Ueno for the day :) First though was the walk in Ginza which I actually found quite short and a good way to start the day. Along the way I walk be this building. There's suppose to be a temple in the grounds but everything looked very official and I wasn't too interested in checking things out, so I just took a photo and was on my way.
On the way into the main section of Ginza there are also a few parks. I stopped at this one for a few minutes to to relax. This is the view out the back end of the park into town.
And there were two statues in the park. First this one. I have now idea who or what it supposed to represent.
And then this one of Chirori. Some kind of 'helper' dog? I get the feeling it was much loved judging by the star it got below.
And then I got into Ueno. My goal today was to go the the National Tokyo Museum, the biggest museum in the area and which houses quite an extensive collection. The really nice thing it was centered in some huge parkland. The bad thing was that it was a Sunday so things got hectic pretty fast.
From the Ueno station to the museum consisted of a really long, nice walk. Quite a lot of nature along the way.
And random cats :)
The park had quite a few other things besides the museum in it.
And a zoo, which even just after 9am in the morning had quite a sea of people trying to get in. After my day here I didn't end up going in. I wasn't too into going in, and the place seemed packed for most of the day :( When I come back though I'll have to check it out.
And ofcourse there's a Starbucks along the way :P
Almost at the museum.
And now I'm in. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of inside the museum. Whenever I would go some place with some really cool shit there was always a policy of 'No Photography'. In the museum I can understand cause there are so many people and taking photos would just make a mess of things, but when the souvenir books of the collection are expensive I really find it annoying I don't have any images of the collection I liked most.
There were quite a few buildings inside the grounds that had their own collections. I only went into three of the buildings because a few were closed for renovations (something else that annoyed me a little when it came to certain places). The highlight was the special collection they had on display. It was 'Japanese Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston'. My favourite part of the collection was the work by Soga Shohaku. Very amazing ink work.
Walking back pass the zoo on the way to the station I stopped at the Toshogu Shrine for a look.
And some random building I have no idea about. I just though it looked a bit crazy.
Walking back into the Ueno station.
Giant Panda at the station.
And then back into Akihabara. I spent too much time here, but luckily not enough money :P
And being a Sunday the main strip was closed to traffic so people just went about their business.
He was very convincing about coming over to the dark side.
I forget which store this was, but they had so much in terms of hobby and collectible. I was in heaven. Unfortunately a combination of shit shots and not wanting to get kicked out of the store means I don't have many photos of the collection, but STAR WARS!!!
Random stuffs
So much Gundam.
And some random jelly lolly I tried cause the packaging just jumped out at me.
Chirori was the first Therapy Dog in Japan, it seems :D
